The same trick works again!

Today I received the following email from April's Chinese teacher, she sent it to all the parents in her class. Please don't mind her English, she studied Russian when she was in China and she learnt Japanese when she lived in Japan for 5 years. She's been here more than a decade but always worked as a Chinese teacher.

Dear parents;
One thing happen today, I want tell you.
Today is Jane's birthday, her Mom bought a cake for our class students, We ate it at snack time, all of our class students had one piece except
Jane, she doesn't want it, and a lot of the other class students came in ask for it, quickly the cake is gone, When class started, we sang a birthday song again for Jane, then I told the students that I even didn't have a piece of cake, do you know what happen, one student came to me gave me a hug, then other, two students, three students, and all of them, some students even gave me a second hug, I am so thankful, They so sweet and so kindhearted. I almost feel to cry.
I am very tired at beginning of the school year, new students, new parents, a lots of question need to be answer, spacial my class students, I have to make them happy an love to learn Chinese, be safe, know school rule an much more,
Whatever, I do my best work with your child, and today, I see my work worth of it. I am happy. even I didn't have a piece of cake :-).

Tonight, I was telling Daddy about this email in the car and April interrupted in the middle saying she's the first one to hug Ms. Cheng. I feel proud.

A cousin called Linda?

Couple weeks ago

April: Why don't I have a cousin?
Daddy: 因爲你姑姑還沒結婚。

Tonight

April: I know 2 Lindas, one is my Mommy and one is aunt-cousin
Mommy: what? who? No, that's your auntie Linda, not an-cousin!
April: Yeah, but when she got married, she's my cousin.

Daddy is cracking out laughing

Catherine

School started like a breeze for April, she fits right into the new school environment and with friends she already know, there is no transition period per say. Not so for another girl in her class named Catherine. Catherine cries almost everyday, asking for Mommy. Little that we know, until Catherine's mom approached Daddy when he dropped off April one morning, that April has being her daughter's emotional comforter since day 1. Whenever Catherine cries, April will go hug her until Catherine feels better. Her mom really appreciated April's help and invited her over to their house for a play date that weekend. And Catherine now sees April as her best friend.
What's funny to us, is little that Catherine's mom knows, April is such a whimper at home. She cries over every little things that doesn't go as she *expected*. Number of times she cries at home is way more than River. Every time she cries, not counting the times when she's fighting with River over a toy(obviously), River will go and hug her. My personal best guess is probably she learnt this from River and applied at school!
